3 Players Who Played for the Packers & Vikings You Probably Remember — And 3 You Might Not
The Vikings-Packers rivalry has seen plenty of players cross enemy lines over the years. Some are impossible to forget. Others might have you saying, “Wait… he was a Viking?”
The Easy Ones to Remember
Ryan Longwell (K)
Longwell spent nine seasons with Green Bay from 1997–2005 before crossing the border and signing with Minnesota in 2006. He kicked for the Vikings through the 2011 season and put together excellent stretches with both franchises.
Greg Jennings (WR)
Jennings was one of Aaron Rodgers’ top weapons in Green Bay, spending seven seasons with the Packers from 2006–2012. He signed with Minnesota in 2013, but his two seasons with the Vikings never quite lived up to expectations.
Brett Favre (QB)
Easily the biggest name on the list. Favre became a Green Bay legend, winning three straight NFL MVP awards and a Super Bowl during his 16 seasons with the Packers.
After one season with the Jets, Favre did the unthinkable and joined the Vikings in 2009. That season was special on just about every level, but ultimately ended in heartbreak in the NFC Championship Game. Favre returned for one more year in 2010, but the magic of 2009 was gone.
The Ones You Might Have Forgotten
Gilbert Brown (NT)
Yes, that Gilbert Brown. Before becoming the Packers’ beloved “Gravedigger,” Brown was actually drafted by the Vikings in 1993. Minnesota cut him before the season began, and Green Bay claimed him off waivers. Brown went on to become a key part of the Packers’ defense and a Super Bowl champion.
Robert Ferguson (WR)
A second-round pick by Green Bay in 2001, Ferguson spent six seasons with the Packers and developed into a solid contributor at receiver. He joined the Vikings in 2007 and spent two mostly uneventful seasons in Minnesota.
Letroy Guion (DT)
Guion spent six seasons with the Vikings after Minnesota drafted him in the fifth round in 2008. He worked his way from rotational defensive lineman to starter before signing with Green Bay in 2014, where he played three more seasons.
Which player do you most associate with the “wrong” team? And who else belongs on this list?
